TIPS

TIP #1: Newspaper pots are a great way to save money if you're potting up a lot of seedlings. They're biodegradable and it's another recycling option for all those newspapers piling up! These sites have great instructions.

TIP #2: To treat powdery mildew, mix 1 T baking soda and 1 T dish soap or horticultural soap with 1 quart of water and spray leaves of any problem plants.

TIP #3: When transplanting small plants, cut the bottom off of a clear 20 oz pop bottle and make a collar for the plant. It will serve three purposes; to keep plant upright until it's stronger; hold moisture in; and keep moisture close to roots. When the plant starts to take off, remove it.

PERENNIAL GERMINATION GUIDE (.pdf file) This is a handy guide for sowing perennials. I use it instead of the packet instructions.
